8 Things I Want From Google Me
#1 — Fresher Google Juice. The more time I spent on Facebook the more searching Google becomes irrelevant. What I’m looking for can be easily gathered from my friend. Google knows it.
The best thing they can do about it is to make their own search even more social. Apparently, that’s what they’re doing. I really hope ‘Google Me’ will push things forward.
#2 — Top notch go-to page for everything social. This is the highly critical success factor for ‘Google Me’. Facebook has done a really good work to make its homepage easier over the years. Clearly, make a slight improvement won’t be enough. Google has no choice but to come up with something completely new, if they want to have a shot at making me (and my Friends) quit on Facebook.
This homepage thing is the real battlefield. Google made a statement that they won’t be making yet another Facebook. Does it mean they won’t provide us with a one stop shop for every ‘Google Me’ social interaction? Very unikely. Note: Anything will do it better than iGoogle.
#3 — Tagging people in Youtube. Youtube is by far Google strongest property. If the plan with ‘Google Me’ is to add a social layer on top of everything Google, then I really look forward to use such a feature.
#4 — Social News. ’Google Me’ should let me know what kind of news my friends are interested in. It should give me news recommendations too.
#5 — Execute notification better than Facebook. Commenting is the most important actions in social network, it’s the fuel of the conversation. No one is ever connected to social networks — unless you are, so there has to be notifications. Problem is there are too many of them right now. And no, Priority Inbox is not a solution.
#6 — Improve Analytics. ’Google Me’ is a strong opportunity to improve analytics. It could become a tool for measuring social influence. I really hope Google will do it.
#7 — Embrace openness. I want to be able to move my data whenever I want. I’m sure Google will take it into account.
#8 — Privacy. I hope Google will avoid Buzz pitfall.
